Typically this person will:

Be an experienced Marine Project Manager with an electrical engineering background, responsible for managing and coordinating the successful delivery of marine engineering projects across a variety of military, police, and commercial marine vessels operating within UK dockyard environments.

Working across both new build and refit projects, they will oversee engineering activities, coordinate resources, manage project requirements, and ensure all works are delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.

The successful candidate will have a strong electrical bias, supported by a sound understanding of mechanical marine systems, allowing them to effectively manage multidisciplinary engineering teams and project activities.

This role will involve managing projects across a diverse fleet of vessels including PAC 24 Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs), P2000 patrol vessels, Valhalla workboats, police patrol craft, military support vessels, landing craft, harbour service vessels, and ocean-going support and patrol vessels.

Working closely with project managers, supervisors, engineering teams, subcontractors, and customers, they will support the successful delivery of marine engineering projects within agreed timescales and budgets.

Key Responsibilities of the Marine Project Manager:

  • Manage and coordinate marine engineering projects from initial planning through to completion and handover.
  • Oversee new build, refit, maintenance, and repair activities within operational dockyard environments.
  • Coordinate electrical installation, integration, testing, commissioning, and harbour acceptance testing activities.
  • Provide technical leadership and support with an electrical engineering bias.
  • Work closely with mechanical and production teams to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Manage project schedules, resources, labour requirements, and deliverables.
  • Liaise with customers, project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Review and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, technical documentation, and project specifications.
  • Support engineering teams with fault finding, technical investigations, and problem resolution where required.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions when required.
  • Ensure all project documentation, reports, test records, and handover information are completed accurately.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with marine standards, company procedures, and health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain effective communication across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working as a Project Manager, Project Engineer, Marine Electrical Engineer, Marine Electrician, or Electrical Technician within marine, shipbuilding, defence, or heavy engineering environments.
  • Strong electrical engineering background with a good understanding of marine systems and mechanical interfaces.
  • Experience managing or supporting new build and refit marine projects.
  • Strong understanding of marine electrical systems, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Experience coordinating engineering teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Strong planning, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver projects within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Knowledge of marine safety standards, electrical regulations, and engineering compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider project team.
  • Flexible approach and willingness to work within operational dockyard environments.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working within UK dockyards, naval bases, or shipyards.
  • Previous hands-on marine electrical engineering experience.
  • Experience working on PAC 24s, P2000 patrol vessels, Valhalla workboats, police vessels, military craft, patrol boats, or support vessels.
  • ECS/CSCS card.18th Edition qualification.
  • CompEx or additional marine electrical certifications.
  • Formal project management qualification (APM, PRINCE2, or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Security clearance or eligibility to obtain security clearance.
