Typically, this person will be an experienced composites professional with infusion knowledge, working on marine vessels or similar composite structures. This role is well suited to candidates from both the marine industry and the wind turbine/blade manufacturing sector, where transferable infusion skills are highly valued.
Key Responsibilities of Shipwright / Infusion Technician
• Carry out resin infusion processes on composite structures (GRP)
• Perform laminating, composite repairs, and ship repair tasks to a high standard
• Fit and bond bulkheads, matrix structures, and other internal composite components into moulds
• Carry out wet lay-up laminating and structural bonding activities as part of vessel construction and fit-out
• Work on both internal and external areas of vessels
• Prepare moulds, materials, consumables, and vacuum systems for infusion processes
• Undertake finishing tasks including trimming, sanding, painting, varnishing, and paint mixing/matching
• Replace, fit, and install vessel components and fittings as required
• Work with a variety of materials including GRP, steel, aluminium, and wood
• Read, interpret, and work from technical drawings and build specifications
• Accurately position, fit, and bond structural components within composite vessels
• Maintain a high standard of workmanship, ensuring all fit-out, laminating, and finishing work is completed neatly and professionally
• Use workshop machinery, power tools, and hand tools safely and competently
• Assist with slipping, launching, and movement of vessels when required
• Complete all work in accordance with company procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards
Essential Skills & Qualifications
• Proven experience with resin infusion processes
• Experience in laminating and marine repair work
• Background in marine, boatbuilding, or wind turbine/blade manufacturing
• Confident in paint matching and mixing
• Good level of carpentry skills
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
• Experience working with high-quality materials and finishes
• Strong understanding of composite materials and processes
